Today we are going to make a star out of toothpicks. But really, all we are going to do is set up the materials and let water do all the work! From our other experiments, we have learned a lot of water and its properties. Let’s refresh ourselves on some of those properties before getting to our experiment.
Water & Its Uses– Primary (K-3)
Properties of Water– Intermediate (4th grade & above)
Wood, Water, and Properties by Crash Course Kids– Intermediate (4th grade & above)
Experiment Time: Toothpick Star Science Trick
Now it’s time time put the principles into action! Materials: 5 toothpicks, a cup of water, pipette/eye dropper/straw, plate to work on

Dearest Andrea,
I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU (!) from the bottom of my heart. To you and your team for these absolutely fantastic science experiments you post every day since covid upended our lives. My three year old and almost seven year old sons ADORE their daily science activities thanks to you! My three year old is talking about osmosis all the time – hahaha! You guys are marvelous. We are stuck in belgium after coming to visit my parents here whilst we moved my little family (three boys, smallest is one) from thailand to…havana. The week we arrived for what was due to be a 2 week vacation (!) the lockdown happened and we are stuck at my parents home without any school for the boys (as we were in transition from bangkok to havana!) So you have literally saved us. Even I am learning so much and having fun! Last cute message is that my 6 year old has told us all numerous times that he wants to marry you 😅😍🤣 he sighs and says « she is such a smart scientist I want to marry her ».
So thanks again, from brussels with love!
