Do your kiddos need something to do when they have a day off school? We have a few different options for you to choose from! All programs run through Howard County Rec & parks and run from 9am-3:30pm, with an optional before care (8am-9am) and after care (3:30pm-5pm).
Day Off School Programs
Friday, October 16: Science-- Once Upon a Time STEM Challenge @ Roger Carter Community CenterStudents will spend the day participating in STEM challenges based on popular fairy tales. They'll work to build a house that will withstand the Big, Bad Wolf's huff & puff. Next they'll partner with Robin to create an accurate bow & arrow. They'll be the knight in shining armor when they engineer an escape for Rapunzel. This combination of STEM and literature is a great way to spend a day off of school!
Wednesday, November 25: Science-- "STEMS-giving" with Club SciKidz MD @ Roger Carter Community Center Come join us for the day with a series of Thanksgiving-Themed Science! Create a sweet potato battery and learn how it works. Become an engineer and create different Cranberry Structures. Next, become a chemist and create your own Cranberry Oobleck. Create a simple circuit by making your own LED Light Up Turkey. Projects go home at the end of the day!
Wednesday, November 25: Cooking-- Jurassic Adventures @ Harriet Tubman Cultural CenterOur imagination will take us to unbelievable places, and our cooking skills will bring it to life! We’ll be making projects and recipes related to the once-in-a-lifetime Jurassic Adventures. Everyone knows that dinosaurs hatch from eggs, right? We’ll make Edible Dinosaur Eggs as well as a Pterodactyl Nest, which will be delicious, sweet treats. We’ll solve the mystery of what you get when you cross a dinosaur and a pizza. (You get a Dino Pizza Pocket!) Be sure to join us for this delicious journey back in time!

Winter Break Programs
Monday, 12/28 - Thursday 12/31: Cooking-- Who Needs a Restaurant? @ Harriet Tubman Cultural Center This week brings the great variety of restaurant cuisine to us as we make lots of different food from a variety of cultures, genres, and meals. Try some new recipes and make some delicious food. Gain kitchen and cooking skills with each recipe that we make! Go home with your own personal cookbook and a few kitchen tools you can use to bring the restaurant to your own kitchen!
Monday, 12/28 - Thursday, 12/31 : Science-- Snowpocalypse Science @ Roger Carter Community Center Learn all about snow and winter in this Winter-Themed Science Winter Break. Create your own Snow Globes, create crystals and your own crystal snowflakes. Discover how Polar Bears stay warm in the winter and create your own Snowball Launcher. Learn about Chromatography by creating your own Chromatography Snowflakes. Become an engineer and build your own igloo. Dive into the world of chemistry and create your own fake snow, plus many more projects throughout the break! Projects go home with campers.
